At Rotofugi Gallery
July 1-31
July is already upon us - a time to break out the fireworks and festivity. Going along with the festive theme is a lively show at Rotofugi Gallery starring, The Little Friends of Printmaking.

(Flight of The Conchords Silkscreen Poster)
The husband-wife duo, Melissa and JW Buchanan started their career as printmakers, designing posters for several bands, such as Guided by Voices and Andrew Bird. Soon after the team decided to take their design skills and produce sleek, humorous print artwork, including playful, bold colors, bouncy shapes, and pop culture references that adorn many pieces. One of my favorite prints is titled Invincible Bowser, which features famous Super Mario villain, Bowser. To see this ominous villain coated in candy colors with pink flames bursting from his mouth is a different suit of armor for this character, making him almost amicable.

The art in the show also features characters created by the artists’ imaginations - many animals, people, and mythical creatures, from skulls to weird amoeba shapes. Another favorite print of mine is titled Weiner, mostly because I am partial to humor as well as daschaunds. The piece features a long, brown two-toned daschaund twisted in an ‘s’ shape, diverting a fire hydrant button and running towards ironically…a hotdog.

(WEENIE)
Overall I think that this exciting exhibition is perfect for the ringing in the new month, so make sure not to miss The Little Friends of Printmaking (especially since it is their first show at the Rotofugi).
The show will run from July 1-31, with the opening reception on July 1 from 7-10 pm.
