Wicker Park is always full of innovative and exciting events such as, the Wicker Park Music Fest, Renegade Craft fair, and the Bucktown Arts Festival. So, it is no surprise that another creative festival would be added to the mix.

The Built Festival, hosted by Fuze, will take place Friday August 12 and Saturday August 13. It promises an interesting and challenging approach to the presentation of art in an unconventional space: several adjoining shipping containers, such as the ones used by PODS, as well as various open spaces for anyone unable to show in a container. Over 100 artists, curators, performers and the like will be showing their work; some of the artists featured will include members of Chicago Artists’ Coalition, CMYKittens, and Dave Sharma who co-owns Lincoln Park’s R&D Gallery with his best friend.
The Built Festival was created by Tristan J.M Hummel and co-producer David Dvorak, the former known as creator of Chicago’s annual Art on Track el train art show. Tristan is a graduate of the School of the Art Institute of Chicago with a degree specializing in digital art and 3D animation. I always love to hear about SAIC Alumni getting involved with Chicago’s art community by spearheading unique events.

I am super excited about this festival - the thought of being able to move through large containers, exploring and imagining, reminds me of the childhood forts my friends and I built out of cardboard boxes. I’m sure it will be a treat for everyone, child to adult. I am also curious to see what artists will be able to create within these enclosed spaces… Any guesses?

The fest will be held at 1767 North Milwaukee Avenue and tickets will be on sale for $10.00 online at http://www.builtforart.com/.
