Kamp Gallery
|
|
Kamp Gallery began in 1976 with the purpose of exploring the contribution of Midwestern artists from the very beginnings of the American western expansion through and up to the present day. For 35 years we have exhibited rediscovered modern masters such as Oscar Thalinger and Shirley Kravitt, artists overlooked during their lifetime and now avidly sought by collector sand museums. Post-Impressionists such as California/Wilmette, IL painter Mabel Wheelock, and Swedish-American artist Alfred Jansson are but a few of the dozens of artists who we have "rehabilitated" from the dustbin of history to the delight of connoisseurs and collectors alike. Our Winnetka gallery was the third reincarnation of Kamp Gallery, has exhibited the finest American and European painters for over 20 years to our North Shore Clientele. Our autumn show will feature paintings from the estate of artist Connie Egar Shneider. Shneider focused on the female nude as her muse for more than 20 years. A regular exhibitor at local and regional art competitions, she is one of the few artists to have the distinction of her work being "banned" from the Congressional Senate Office Chambers in Washington D.C. due to Republican censorship. The "banned", offensive painting was welcomed in Representative Barney Frank's offices for the duration of the exhibition. Her career was cut short when she died from lung cancer in 2009 at the height of her artistic powers. We are proud to feature her retrospective show, which includes over 25 works in the gallery from Oct. 2-23. Half of the proceeds from the sale of her work will be donated to the nonprofit cancer survivors assistance foundation called LUNGevity. |
