South of the city center are several expanding gallery and artist communities. Also included in the this area are The Museum of contemporary Art, the River East Art Center and Navy Pier.
North/Bucktown/Wicker Park North/Bucktown/Wicker Park
Old Town and The Clybourn Corridor offer two North Side clusters of galleries, but the “district” covers a broad geographical area including a number of interesting neighborhoods such as Bucktown, Wicker Park, Lakeview, and Lincoln Park. Besides galleries, the north side includes the Chicago Historical Society, streets surrounding the Coyote Tower (North/Milwaukee/Damen), and scores of artists living and working in Chicago.
Suburbs and Beyond Suburbs and Beyond
Beyond the city limits, the Chicago art scene continues with galleries and university spaces. Some are in Evanston— just 5 miles north of the city near Northwestern University; others are in Oak Park near the Frank Lloyd Wright Home and Studio; and many can be found in nearby suburbs and neighboring states.
