Alt Spaces + Apt Galleries |
 |
Beyond its mainstream galleries, Chicago has a diverse, renowned community of alternative or project spaces located in unconventional spaces. Many spaces are completely artist-run, and they can be found in apartments, basements, lofts, and garages - or places no one has even thought of yet. Many contemporary artists have gotten their start in these unusual venues, and much of the programming offered features performance art, film/video screenings, readings and lectures. Some spaces are not-for-profit, and some are commercial. And many have limited hours, so call ahead. Select individual Alt Spaces + Apt Galleries to view current
exhibition schedules and contact information.
