This fall, the NIU Art Museum celebrates the 30th anniversary of the Center for Burma Studies. The museum, located on Northern Illinois University's campus in DeKalb, is hosting a suite of four exhibitions within their 5,000 square foot space. Kaleidoscope of Burmese Art celebrates the rich collection of the Center, which is the only academic organization of its kind in the world. Curated by Catherine Raymond, director of the Center, the exhibitions bring together iconic objects from the NIU collection alongside work from contemporary Burmese artists.
Accompanying the exhibitions are a number of programs including a lecture about the tradition of tattoos in Burmese culture, a sampling of Burmese cuisine, and an investigation of map-making traditions in Ancient Burma.
Below you'll find photos of a number of paintings, sculptures, and objects from Kaleidoscope of Burmese Art. The exhibition is on display until November 18, 2016.
