In Gallery I, Goldfinch is proud to present, "A Park at Lunar Surface," a solo exhibition by Minami Kobayashi. Charged with a sense of magical realism, Kobayashi’s figurative paintings combine intimacy and mystery through their depictions of ordinary people, animals, and places that seem vaguely surreal and ever so slightly off-kilter. Using fast-drying egg tempera, the artist applies thin coats of paint in layers, creating jewel-like facets of color and images that seem to emerge from the painted surface only gradually, like distant memories and half-recalled dreams.
