a rebel’s fantasy

Nov 12, 2022 - Dec 31, 2022
2251 S. Michigan Ave. Suite 220 Chicago, IL 60616

We invite you to the opening reception for a rebel’s fantasy. The show opens on Sat, November 12 from 4-7 pm, and will occupy the A & B Sides of the gallery.

Our guest curator Michael Rangel curated the artwork by seven artists based in Chicago and from across the country: REEVAH AGARWAAL, CRYSTAL “NIKKI” DIAZ, NARONG TINTAMUSIK, HUMBERTO MALDONADO, ENRIQUE NEVAREZ, HAYLIE JIMENEZ, AND BRIANNA NOBLE. A common thread connects all of the artists: these artists are rebels. As artists of color, queer artists, immigrant artists (and everything in between) these artists share the experience of being the outsiders, the weird ones, the queers, the nerds, and the monsters. Their work defies the status quo as they rebel against the expected, whether through material and medium or subject matter, the work offers viewers expressions of fantasy, dreams, and desires. The artworks are lifelines away from the mundane & thrive in spaces outside the white cube—a pink cube would be more befitting of the art and artists. Rebels desire to escape conventional modes of life. “a rebel’s fantasy” affords the artists a space for free expression—they can create what they want. At FLXST, we embrace their intersectional perspectives & practices and their ferocious drive to represent and exist in an art world that has often told them otherwise.
