The South Side Community Art Center is a community art center in Chicago that opened in 1940 because of the vision of Dr. Margaret Burroughs and other African American artists and with support from the Works Progress Administration’s Federal Art Project in Illinois. Opened in Bronzeville, it became the first Black art museum in the United States and has been an important center for the development Chicago’s African American artists.Today SSCAC conserves, preserves and promotes the legacy and future of African American art and artists while educating the community on the value of art and culture. As the oldest African American art center in the USA SSCAC takes pride in its past and present contributions to the development and showcasing of emerging and established artists. SSCAC seeks out and educate young artists; provide gallery space; educational and art programs as well as serve as a repository for African American artists, scholars, collectors and the community.&nbsp;&nbsp;

All of Living is Risk&nbsp;brings together works by Cory Perry (b. 1989, Fayetteville, Arkansas) and Nnaemeka C. Ekwelum (b. 1990, Boston). Drawing on Afro Diasporic textile practices of quilting and weaving, respectively, Perry and Ekwelum explore the juxtaposition of Black queer grief, joy, and belonging.&nbsp;Visitors are invited to gently move their bodies through Perry’s installation and closely observe Ekwelum’s cloths, inspiring the beauty of wonderment.&nbsp;Both exhibitions are&nbsp;on view&nbsp;October 7, 2023 - December 16, 2023.
