DANNIELLE TEGEDER + TANNER WOODFORD
In conjunction with the 2019 Chicago Architecture Biennial, Carrie Secrist Gallery will be hosting a discussion between Dannielle Tegeder, and Tanner Woodford on November 23, from 2-4PM. This discussion will explore painting in the expanded field as it relates to questions of participation, authenticity, place, development and distribution. Questions considered may include: What are the historical implications of a narrowly defined creative act?, How can a broad-based approach to inclusive learning methodologies use art and architecture as structure? and, Who might benefit most - or least - from exposing the commodified nature of cultural consumption?
Dannielle Tegeder lives and works in Brooklyn, New York. Recent solo exhibitions include H&R Block Artspace at the Kansas City Art Institute, the Montclair Art Museum, NJ and the Wellin Museum of Art, Hamilton, NY. Her work has been exhibited at the Brooklyn Museum, New York; P.S.1 Contemporary Art Center, New York; Bronx Museum, New York, Neuberger Museum of Art, Purchase, NY; National Gallery of Design, New York; Henry Art Gallery in Seattle; Kohler Arts Center, Sheboygen, Wisconsin. Her artwork is in the collections of the Museum of Modern Art, the Museum of Contemporary Art in Chicago and the Weatherspoon Museum of Art. Tegeder received a BFA from the State University of New York at Purchase (1994) and an MFA in Painting and Drawing from The School of The Art Institute of Chicago (1997). She is an Associate Professor of Art at the City University of New York at Lehman College.
Tanner Woodford is founder and executive director of Design Museum of Chicago. He teaches at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and makes Iterative Work. As a designer, educator, and entrepreneur, he has taught, lectured, and led workshops on design issues, social change, and design history in classrooms and at conferences.
