Artist Talk: Deborah Maris Lader

Stop by and have a looksee into Deborah's brain and process, as the artist delves into some of the narratives that drive her work and imagery. At 3pm we'll mingle and check out the works in the show, at 4pm Deborah will wax poetic on swimming birds and flying fish and fragile dancing shadows and how she composes her outfits, and then we'll all just play with flashlights and exchange our own stories and inspirations. There's a decent chance that we'll turn off all the lights and have a flashlight "happening" incorporating her glass and shadow work. You'll have to attend to find out!

The imagery in Deborah Maris Lader's etchings, lithographs, screen prints and recent explorations with found glass are derived from both dreams and life, and the way these experiences are sewn together, with odd bits of memories mixed and strewn throughout.

Birds and fish migrate on waves of cloud and sea, using their senses to navigate their way. We watch in wonder as they flit and float, and are inspired to be our better selves. In these works, Lader addresses the idea of fragility - of our faculties, our senses, and of our "place" in the world and how, in the pursuit of saving it, we might save ourselves.

This exhibition features evocative and imaginitive work that  falls into 3 groups: medium and large scale beautiful multi-colred etchings and litho prints, works featuring etched glass, and small poignant prints featuring a variety of birds, perched, and in flight.  Examples are below.
