ABOUT THE ARTIST
Tobias Rehberger studied at the Staedelschule in Frankfurt am Main with Martin Kippenberger where he currently teaches. Rehberger’s artistic practice transforms architecture, design, and industrial objects into high-chroma, often absurdist, multi-media installations. He is represented in Monochrome Multitudes by his time-based installation 81 years (2002), a video that takes a lifetime to display, pixel by pixel, the entire color spectrum. He has been the subject of solo exhibitions at Kunsthalle Basel (1998); Moderna Museet, Stockholm (1998); Sprengel Museum, Hannover (1998); Museum Für Neue Kunst, Karlsruhe (2002); Palais de Tokyo, Paris (2002); Whitechapel Gallery, London (2004); Schirn Kunsthalle, Frankfurt (2014); Rockbund Art Museum, Shanghai (2019); and Kunstmuseum Stuttgart, Stuttgart (2022); and received the Golden Lion award for best artist at the 2009 Venice Biennale.
