Maps have always appealed to me. The maps on the back of those Dell paperback crime novels, or the maps of imaginary worlds that were sometimes the frontispiece in works of speculative fiction by Edgar Rice Burroughs or Hugh Lofting or Hergé. Every map is both a surface and an interior. I used to spend a lot of time thinking about one map in particular, a mental image I tried to conjure up of every place of business that existed on Broadway between Oakdale to the south and Buckingham to the north circa 1966, which was pretty much my whole universe back then. I guess it is even now, as it is the genesis of these drawings. Altogether they form a map, whereby with pencil, pen and colored marker, I hope to share some stories with you of what it was like growing up in my old town. –Horberg
