"What is CASE Art Fund?"

In 2018, after years of discussion, Cathy Edelman and Anette Skuggedal founded CASE Art Fund, an Illinois-based nonprofit, whose mission is to raise awareness about children's human rights through the support and exhibition of photography. Learn about the programs CASE supports and why there is a need for NGOs like CASE.

CATHY EDELMAN

Cathy Edelman is the owner of Catherine Edelman Gallery, a 33½ year-old Chicago-based gallery that specializes in contemporary photography and photo-based art. Since its founding in 1987, the gallery has established itself as one of the leading galleries in the US devoted to the exhibition of prominent living photographers, alongside new & young talent. In May of 2019, CEG moved and built a 4400 sq ft space, expanding its program to include artists' readings and panel discussions, with a larger exhibition space and dedicated video room, To date, CEG has hosted 245 public exhibitions, featuring more than 200 artists. ANETTE SKUGGEDAL

For more than 25 years, Anette Skuggedal worked as an art director in film, advertising, and broadcasting in Oslo, Norway. In 2003, she left the commercial industry to focus on photography, launching PUG OSLO [Pop Up Gallery] and establishing herself as a consultant for private and corporate collections. She has curated exhibitions in Stockholm, Oslo, and Japan, and published books and catalogs for Sally Mann, Roger Ballen, Masao Yamamoto, and Arno Rafael Minkkinen. In 2017, Skuggedal renamed PUG OSLO, opening Lumina Gallery, which is part of a cultural art house in downtown Oslo. Lumina Gallery offers an array of workshops, exhibitions, and seminars, and is seen as a leading educator for fine art photography in Oslo. Above photo © Alex Timmermans

LESLIE THOMAS

Leslie Thomas is the co-founder of MIRA and LARC Architecture and Design, the founder of ARTWORKS Projects, an Emmy-award winning art director, and mom. Her recent film projects include The Prosecutors and Thursday’s Child, co-editing Witnesses to War: The Children of Syria - a book of photography on the impact of war on children, and has designed a variety of buildings in the Midwest and California. Thomas’s multi-media human rights-focused work has toured across five continents and is the recipient of grants from The National Endowment for the Arts, the MacArthur Foundation, the Open Society Foundations, and many other major philanthropic institutions.
