As the year moves into the holiday season, I am thrilled to announce the gallery’s final show of 2023, a group show entitled Charm. The group show is composed of exceptional emerging contemporary artists in dialogue with seasoned artists who have shown widely in the US and abroad. Co-curated by Laura Kina, Vincent de Paul Professor, the Art School, DePaul University, and FLXST’s own Reevah Agarwaal, the group show is composed of the following artists:
Srishti Bahl
Izzy Cho
Cathy Hsiao
Sona Kim
Liz Merritt Kong
Lien Truong
Charm takes its title from Izzy Cho’s sculpture Charms at Rest, 2023, and is a serendipitous interplay of six Asian and Asian American femmes and thems, each contributing to the idea of “Charm” in its mystical, alluring, and superstitious interpretation. Charm is not merely a juxtaposition of the ornamental and the political; it's a dialogue between mediums that honor traditional cultural rituals and weave them with modern imagery. It invites you to engage with the works not just as formal expressions but as part of a greater narrative that engages heritage and mythology with mundane objects in a playful manner. It underscores the interconnectedness of beliefs and aesthetics, illuminating how the experiences and identities of these artists echo in each other's creations.
