In this workshop, Hannah will guide participants through an improvisational movement exploration responding to the artwork on view in Echo Mutation. Participants will embody some of the visual qualities present in the works, as well as uncover a physical language that teeters between intuitive and conscious processing. This workshop is open to all movement-curious people ages 16 and up; please wear shoes that you can comfortably move in on concrete.

Hannah Marcus is a Chicago-based dance artist interested in supporting and deconstructing the materiality of the body. Her research finds form in collaborative performance work, often exploring the nexus between movement and visual design, sound, technology, and language. Hannah has presented work independently through the LookOut Series at Steppenwolf 1700 Theater, DePaul Art Museum, Jello Performance Series at Elastic Arts, Lumber Studios, MOMENTA Dance Company, The Place (London), and University of Michigan Museum of Art. She has performed in exhibitions by Chris Reeves, Makayla Lindsay, and Ray Madrigal in addition to dance work by Maggie Vannucci, Amalia Raye Wiatr Lewis, Noelle Kayser, Rosie Herrera, Russell Lepley, Shay Kuebler, and Shannon Gillen. Hannah holds a BFA in dance with a minor in Performing Arts Management & Entrepreneurship from the University of Michigan. Upon moving back to Chicago in 2021, she started working with House of DOV and Hedwig Dances, the latter of which brought her to Dessau, Germany, for Bauhaus Fest. Hannah currently freelances on projects directed by Drew Lewis & Helen Lee, facilitates improvisation workshops with experimental musicians, and is working on an ongoing project with support from the Bridge Program at Hyde Park Art Center. www.hannah-marcus.com
