In 2012, musician Damon Locks and writer Terri Kapsalis were each separately commissioned by Chicago's Experimental Sound Studio to create pieces in response to the ESS Sun Ra/Alton Abraham archive. In lieu of solo work, they teamed up and invited Wayne Montana, Locks' colleague in the Eternals, to work with them to make a sound piece. Finished piece in hand, the threesome then welcomed animator Rob Shaw to create an accompanying visual track. Clocking in at 17:30 minutes, incorporating elements of Sun Ra's equations-based philosophy and an outlook that is simultaneously bleak and optimistic, "Noon Moons" is the result of their collaboration.
