Join Joanna Pinsky and Sarah Packer for an expertly-guided coach bus trip to Milwaukee, Wisconsin and explore their famous art museum, a fabulous art hotel, a local artist studio, and a beautiful private collection!
ITINERARY
We’ll begin at the iconic Milwaukee Art Museum, an architectural landmark comprised of three buildings designed by three legendary architects: Eero Saarinen, David Kahler and Santiago Calatrava. After exploring Meadow, a temporary light installation in the stunning Calatrava atrium, we’ll focus on works from the museum’s outstanding contemporary collection and renowned decorative arts collection before heading to lunch.
Enjoy more art with lunch at Saint Kate: The Arts Hotel, where we’ll be immersed in Winter Where Winter Works: Art of Solitude and Contemplation, an exhibition featuring photographs and paintings exploring nature and isolation.
Following lunch, we’ll visit the non-profit community-based organization Anchor Press Paper and Print (AP3) in the House of RAD studio building. The organization’s founder, David Jones, will meet with us in his studio to share his varied skills and interests as both a multimedia printmaker and developer of educational workshops and community events. David will explain his artistic process and demonstrate different printmaking techniques.
Our day will conclude with a visit to the private home and art collection of Jill King and Mark Lawson. Jill, an artist who creates mixed media sculptures and has led many Art Encounter programs, recently relocated to Milwaukee from Chicago. We’ll ask her to compare the art communities in the two cities. Mark, who is the former Gallery Director for the Milwaukee Institute of Art and Design, will discuss their collection.
