Featuring Artists: Joseph Bounds, Erica Entrop, Julie Rotblatt-Amrany
Joseph Bounds is a North Carolina based artist. His work is about finding balance and clarity within oneself. The work in his current series is composed of two subjects: the human figure and the mirror surface. The space of each painting is occupied by more than one view of the figure and multiple mirrors intersecting, framing, or otherwise interacting with it to create visual echoes throughout the image.
Erica Entrop's work involves a quilting process by simplifying, deconstructing, and reassembling portraits of familiar faces to recontextualize the idea of the 'selfie.' By using oddly shaped fabric scraps with varying opacities, she layers these pieces through stitching. Quilts having that historical or heirloom quality emphasize the contrast of the two notions.
Julie Rotblatt-Amrany has an impressive and extensive resume in figurative art that began over 30 years ago. You may recognize some of her work around the Chicago area, most notably, the commissioned The Spirit: Michael Jordan bronze sculpture outside the United Center. She currently co-owns and operates a family run studio where she sculpts monumental sized figures in clay. As a multi-media artist, inspiration and intuition are key elements to her process of creation.
Closing reception is May 3, and exhibition will be on view through May 10
