Derek Walter's ambitious new body of work, Earth & Ice, emanates from his ongoing concerns for the evolving global warming catastrophe combined with a poetic vision of our lithosphere. By wedging a combination of porcelain and stoneware clay bodies, he captures the natural forces of stratification, revealing the physical history of his works' creation while reminding us of the inevitable and unforeseen consequences of global change. Like a metaphoric boulder with no set position, his work echoes an unthamable timescale while highlighting our responsibliity for our earth's environmental trajectory.
