Anne Loucks Gallery is pleased to announce an exhibition of lithographs by Winnetka native and renowned 20th century artist, Fairfield Porter, on view now through October 31st. Porter was born in Winnetka in 1907 and graduated from New Trier High School. He continued his studies at Harvard and the Art Students League of New York before returning to the North Shore in the 1930s. His first art exhibition was at the North Shore Art League in 1939.
Fairfield Porter is well known for his representational landscapes and portraits of family, friends and everyday life during a time when abstract expressionism was dominating the American art scene. Porter was also a respected art critic, writing for The Nation and serving as associate editor for Art News. His work as both artist and critic made him an influential figure in the mid-20th century art world. Today, Porter's work is part of museum collections throughout the U.S.
Please visit us at 309 Park Avenue in Glencoe to see Porter's lithographs, alongside paintings by Sara MacCulloch and Hannah Bureau. Sara has spent recent artist residencies on Great Spruce Head Island, which was Fairfield Porter's summer home and studio throughout his life.
