Family Days at the Smart Museum are designed to celebrate the creative potential in all of us. With new projects every month, Family Days offer opportunities for kids and their caregivers to create together and connect with one another. Each program is unique, fun, and free, emphasizing invention, improvisation, and hands-on creativity.
Have you ever looked in the sky or looked deeply into Lake Michigan and just saw BLUE as far as the eye can see? This Saturday, jump into the color blue and explore how one single color can open up a universe of possibilities. Play with blue sand, create giant blue drawings and paintings, and listen to blues music all afternoon long. The activities are inspired by the blue room in Monochrome Multitudes, featuring works by Helen Frankenthaler, Ellsworth Kelly, Yves Klein, Haegue Yang, and others.
FREE, drop-in. Art-making supplies and other materials are provided. Family programs are best for kids 4–12, but all ages are welcomed! Children must be accompanied by an adult at all times.
