Film screening: Lee Godie, Chicago French Impressionist
Saturday, Feb 26, 2022 3 – 5 pm756 N. Milwaukee Ave.
Chicago, IL 60642
Finding herself homeless on the streets of Chicago at the age of 60, Lee Godie branded herself as a “French Impressionist,” selling pen/ink drawings and paintings to collectors, art students and pedestrians on Michigan Avenue for over twenty years until she passed away in 1994. Directed by Kapra Fleming with co-producer Tom Palazzolo, this documentary portrait relies on first-hand interviews with friends and Chicago art collectors about this unique artist, who embodied the entrepreneurial spirit of Chicago and masterfully wove a web of speculation about her life.
The film screening will take place in the performance space at Intuit and conclude with a Q+A with filmmaker Kapra Fleming and gallerist Carl Hammer, moderated by Intuit President and CEO Debra Kerr.
