Join us on the evening of Friday, September 6 to celebrate the grand opening of our new home in Chicago’s River West neighborhood at 688 N Milwaukee Avenue. The 6,300 square foot space features floor-to-ceiling windows and 15 foot ceilings throughout its two wings — one exclusively for exhibitions and the other for public programming, education workshops, and more.
We are thrilled by all the new possibilities for growth that this move opens up to us. Not only will we be able to accommodate far greater numbers of people due to the considerable increase in square footage, but most importantly we’ll also have the opportunity to be even more ambitious in our thinking about the ways we can offer our space as a resource to our nonprofit organization partners, artists, organizers, and the Chicago community at large.
It certainly is not lost on us that the resonance of our work over the past five years largely owes its depth to you and all who have generously added their voices to the ongoing discourse that Weinberg/Newton Gallery strives to evoke. Now in our new space, we plan to build on the strong foundation we have established over the course of 22 exhibitions in partnership with those on the front lines of the fight for social justice. We are committed to continuing to seek out new ways to harness art’s power to activate ideas, inspire conversation, and motivate action.
Our new location’s inaugural exhibition,The Way the Mystic Sees, is presented in collaboration with Human Rights Watch, featuring work by Nadav Assor, Mary Helena Clark, Max Guy, Asa Mendelsohn, Christopher Meerdo, Catherine Sullivan, Maryam Taghavi, and Marilyn Volkman.. All are invited to the opening reception, which will take place on Friday, September 6 from 5 to 8pm.
Stay tuned for more updates in the coming weeks!
