Intermissions: Joe Namy

Apr 23, 2022 - Apr 24, 2022
University of Chicago 5811 S. Ellis Ave. Cobb Hall, 4th fl. Chicago, IL, 60637

Joe Namy’s live projects and exhibitions often focus on the social constructs of music and organized sound. For this new performance, the London- and Beirut-based artist conjures a dance floor and brings to life a series of collaborative scores and improvised happenings. Disguised as Dance Floor, as it’s titled, explores the subversive politics of bass and the effects of sound on the body, generating new modes of holistic listening and situations where gestures, sounds, and words mingle in adventurous ways. Curated by Karsten Lund with Michael Harrison.

This iteration of Intermissions is part of the Consortium Commissions, an initiative of Mophradat, which builds a network of partner museums to produce new works, and it will also be staged at Portikus in Frankfurt, Germany, this winter.
