Lecture in Photography with exhibiting artist Tom Jones

Tom Jones (Ho-Chunk, b. 1964) is an interdisciplinary artist, curator, writer, and educator. His artwork is a commentary on American Indian identity, experience, and perception. His North American Landscape series, currently on view in the Refracting Histories exhibition, reimagines Edward Curtis’s portrayals of Indigenous populations.

Jones has shown his works in several exhibitions, including a retrospective exhibition Here We Stand at the Museum of Wisconsin Art in 2022. His works are in numerous private and public collections including the National Museum of the American Indian, Polaroid Corporation, the Minneapolis Institute of Art (Mia), the IAIA Museum of Contemporary of Native Arts, Microsoft, and the MoCP. He completed an MFA ’05 in photography and an MA ‘05 in museum studies from Columbia College Chicago and a BFA from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, where he is professor of photography.
