PLEASE NOTE: This event was originally scheduled on April 1.
On select Saturdays during Merce Cunningham: Common Time, local dance companies engage with Merce’s conviction of “common time” to activate the driving themes and concepts behind the exhibition. These collaborative and cross-disciplinary performances demonstrate overlapping relationships between movement, music, fashion, architecture, social media, set, and lighting design.
The series commences with an outdoor performance of For the toward, where vibrant and athletic performers Matty Davis and Will Arbery interact with steel objects, building nails, and poetic texts all while balancing on, pitching, and catching sculptures that weigh between 15 and 35 pounds. Expect nontraditional choreography and formidable displays of strength punctuated by startlingly tender moments of intimacy. The 25-minute performance will cycle five times on the hour starting at noon with the final performance at 4pm.
