Melanie Parke & Richard Kooyman: In Conversation

The show includes thirty-five paintings by the artists, capturing landscapes, shorelines and interior settings in and around their Northern Michigan studios.

Melanie Parke's paintings combine brilliant color with and familiar objects and beautiful views to create a sense of sense of comfort, pleasure and nostalgia. Each of her canvases reflects an intuitive sense of composition, balance and light. Richard Kooyman's work is inspired by fleeting moments he observes in the landscape that surrounds his studio. With smooth brushstrokes and rich color, he captures tree lines, sand dunes, and sunlit waters, creating an emotional connection to a specific place in time.
