Corpus gathers a collection of new photographic works by Chicago-based photographer and artist Michael Weinberg. Corpus marks the first solo show at FLXST Contemporary for Weinberg. Exhibited in the B-Side of FLXST, Weinberg presents a new corpus of black-and-white portraits of queer bodies. His photographs create a queer vernacular sensibility that gestures to neo/classicist figurative studies as well as the eroticism of images of men in classic physique magazines. The photographic subjects in his images often seek him out on social media. Many of these online platforms facilitate a de-personalizing of queer encounters, which Weinberg attempts to counter through an intentional dialogic photographic practice. The photographs in Corpus expose masculinity as a fragile construct across a spectrum of queer bodies.
