Paris London Hong Kong is pleased to present "Paintings" by Michelle Bolinger
Chicago-based painter Michelle Bolinger creates abstract paintings that investigate modes of seeing and oscillate between the surface and three-dimensionality. Layering and then taking away many thin layers of paint, Bollinger builds a multi-layered surface that is then interrupted with flat areas of color or defined geometric forms to create an optical surface tension. As Bolinger states, “I like the limitation of painting… it’s color on a two-dimensional surface. You can make it illusionistic or it can remain flat, and I like my paintings to teeter on that line in-between.”
Michelle Bolinger received her BFA in painting at Indiana University, Bloomington, and her MFA at the University of Washington in Seattle. Her work has been featured in solo and group exhibitions in Chicago, Seattle, Des Moines, IA, as well as at the Elmhurst Art Museum, Loyola University, Lake Forest College, and more. She has been awarded grants from the Illinois Art Council and the Chicago Artists Assistance Program. She has taught at Northwestern University, Loyola University, Lake Forest College, Harold Washington College, and the University of South Florida.
