In Nicole Acosta: HOOPS—Beyond the Aesthetic Lies the Story, Milwaukee-based artist Nicole Acosta draws on the cultural history of adornment to create portraits of individuals in hoop earrings. More than just documentation, Acosta's images evoke the personality of the sitter and engage in a dialogue about the symbolic power of jewelry beyond aesthetic choice.

Join RAM and Acosta on Thursday, September 5 for a reading of excerpts from her recently debuted HOOPS stage play—inspired by The HOOPS Project—at the Racine Theatre Guild, starting at 6:30 pm. The exhibition will be open before and after the Table Read and Community Conversation, with light refreshments available at RAM's Wustum Museum following the event.
