Night Visions: Mixed Media Collage Artist Melanie Deal

Night Visions is back this fall! Treat yourself to an adventurous evening with program leader Sarah Packer as we meet exceptional Evanston artists in their homes and studios to explore their work, discover their artistic journeys, and view demonstrations of their craft. 

Gather in the charming Evanston apartment and home studio of artist Melanie Deal for a delightful evening exploring the art of paper and mixed media collage. Using a precise process and a keen eye for pattern and structure, Melanie creates visually-stimulating and intricately-made pieces of art. We’ll hear how her career in publishing gave her access to a wide variety of printed materials, influencing not only her choice of medium but also the themes that inspire her subject matter. Hidden within the organized patterns of shape and color, we’ll discover the humor, wit, and nostalgic references that harken to her childhood love of comics, paper dolls, and pop culture. At the end of the evening, Melanie will explain and demonstrate her process for planning and implementing the designs for her highly-unique collages.
