Continuing the firm’s commitment to championing the work of The Chicago School, Freeman’s | Hindman is honored to present the firm’s first Post War and Contemporary auction of the fall season on September 25, featuring rare and exceptional examples by Gertrude Abercrombie, Roger Brown, Richard Hunt, Jim Nutt, Christina Ramberg, and many more of their friends and contemporaries. Showcasing and celebrating the genius of these artists, this sale shines a spotlight on hometown heroes with one of the strongest and widest selections of Chicago art making to come to auction in recent years. Additional highlights of the sale include an exquisite selection of sculpture, fiber art, and works on paper with especially remarkable textiles by Magdalena Abakanowicz, Bisa Butler, and Mike Kelley being of particular note.
Head of sale Zack Wirsum states “We have long established ourselves as the place to go for the best and the brightest Chicago material. Our September sale is no exception to the rule of us ruling this collecting realm with a feast for the eyes of top-notch examples by all the key players on offer. I am most enthused and humbled to have Christina Ramberg’s spectacular quilt Japanese Showcase in the auction, on the heels of her stunning retrospective that just closed at the Art Institute of Chicago, it is both a feather in our cap and a unique opportunity for collectors to have us bring this rare gem to market.”
