Enjoy innovative cocktails and exciting food truck fare, Friday, October 18th 2019 starting at 6 PM, The Art Center Highland Park, 1957 Sheridan Road, Highland Park, IL 60035.
Probably the most anticipated event of their year, The Art Center Highland Park once again hosts the Recycled Art Sale Benefit with an opening party on Friday, October 18th, with continuing dates through the 28th of October.
“This is our 31st Annual Recycled Event”, says Jackie Chilow, Director of Events at TACHP, “and may be our best Recycled event ever. We’ll have the fun opening event on the 18th, but for the next ten days we’ll continue the sale until we’re sold out. That means being open on Sundays and, by request, we’ll be open in the evening on Wednesday, October 22nd, till 9 PM.”
During the year TACHP accepts donations from private collectors, galleries, estates, corporate art collections and institutions. The variety of items is vast and high quality, including paintings, prints, ceramics, decorative objects, vintage posters, silver, antiques, sculpture, art glass, jewelry, and more, storing it all in an off-site facility. “This year”, says Chilow, “the storage facility was so overcrowded that we had to add a storage container behind the building and most of our closets are filled to bursting with great pieces.”
This much anticipated event kicks off with a semi-private party on Friday, October 18th, from 6-7 PM, with an admission price of $150 and a limited number of guests. “People get the VIP treatment and early access to these incredible bargains,” adds Chilow. General admission on the 18th starts at 7 PM with $85 tickets that include food truck access and open bars spread throughout the entire upper floor of the center.
“We basically shut down every gallery on the main floor for most of October”, adds Executive Director James M. Lynch, “for cleaning, sorting and cataloging this collection. And it’s worth it. In the past these events have contributed in excess of $50,000 to our operating budget and scholarship programs. Besides, the public loves this event for the amount of fun it holds. This year we wanted to make it even more special and that’s why we’ve added food trucks, an open bar, music and other fun perks.”
TACHP Curator Caren Helene Rudman helps to sort, price and organize the collection, but outside volunteers really make this event ‘the place to be in October’. Long-time HP residents Heidi Kirsch and Lori Korol (aka ‘The ArtChiks’) along with Liz Salinas of @ Properties have been working on this event as co-chairs for months in advance. “Heidi and I spend all year helping people find just the right piece of art for their home”, says Korol, “so this is like a ‘working vacation’ for us; but we both love and support TACHP’s mission. This is really a lot of fun for us and we get to work with lots of friends in the community.” Salinas adds, “It’s really amazing how excited the community gets about this event. People have been asking me for details for months and asking about volunteering to help.”
“October is Arts Month and recycling is such an urgent issue,” adds Kirsch, “so this event really hits the bullseye. This year there will even be a secondary event in collaboration with Go Green HP. Wednesday the 22nd, at 4:30 and 7PM, we’ll share ‘From Coastal Clean-up to Mindful Art: a creative and educational program that will include video, discussion, art and snacks’.”
