Sandra Yagi is interested in the intersection between science and art, using themes of anatomy, genetic manipulation, evolution, and medical oddities as tools in the creation of paintings in traditional styles. Her latest works draw on her Japanese heritage and depict numerous supernatural entities and spirits, known as Yokai, parading through Japanese villages and countryside. This procession, Hyakki Yagyō, was a popular theme in Japanese art, and was usually shown in long scrolls in pre-modern Japan.
