Saturday Open House

Saturday, Aug 21, 2021 1:00 PM – 4:00 PM
1513 N. Western, Unit 101, Chicago, IL 60622

Join us at our weekly open house Saturday, 1-4pm through August, for wine and beer (sponsored by Door 24 Wine and Forbidden Root) as we celebrate the work of our current artist, Nathan Mason.

Artist Statement: "For a long time I have done collage and assemblage in a variety of media, this recent body of work is that methodology in clay. Working with kitsch figurines and adding clay and glazes makes for improvisations directly inspired by their source.

"Not having a commute during the pandemic I walked or bicycled the mile to my studio almost daily. The enforced isolation gave me more time to focus and explore different avenues in making." – Nathan Mason

Nathan Mason is an artist in Chicago with a day job.

He exhibits occasionally, most recently at Compound Yellow. He has been in group shows at Klein Artworks, Rhona Hoffman Gallery, and NAME, among others.  He has curated numerous independent projects for spaces ranging from Beret International to Margin, his own short-lived apartment gallery. The Butter Show in 1999 garnered international media attention.  He is also an occasional writer; reviews have appeared in the New Art Examiner and Subnation. He sat on the exhibition committees of Randolph Street Gallery and Gallery 312, has been an ACRE panelist and a member of the Oriental Institute Museum’s temporary exhibition advisory group.

His day job is being a public art administrator for the Chicago Department of Cultural Affairs & Special Events.  He obtained a BA in Art (Ceramics) and Art History from the University of Dallas and did further studies at the University of Utah and the University of Chicago (where he decided graduate studies were not his career path)."
