Join grantees Shani Peters and Joseph Cuillier of The Black School in discussion with Whawn Allen (Whawn Allen Architects and Construction Consultants), Ada Tolla and Guiseppe Lignano (LOT-EK), and Bryan C. Lee Jr (Colloqate) about their forthcoming Graham-supported publication The Black Schoolhouse Manual (Paper Machine, 2022). This book is a contemporary adaptation of Tuskegee Institute’s 1915 Negro Rural Schoolmanual that provides a blueprint for community organizers to construct low-cost, independent Black spaces in the context of historical precedents and in conversation with contemporary social architecture technologies.

This program is co-presented by Logan Center Exhibitions and the Center for the Study of Race, Politics and Culture at the University of Chicago in conjunction with the exhibition Carrie Mae Weems: A Land of Broken Dreams.
