THE HAPPINESS SHOW RECEPTION and AWARDS CEREMONY will be held on | Friday, July 14, 2023, 6:00–9:00 p.m. Award winners will be announced at 7:00 p.m.

The Chicago Alliance of Visual Artists (CAVA) is pleased to be exhibiting members’ art for the first time at the Epiphany Center for the Arts, a new vibrant art and performance center centrally located in Chicago. CAVA is a Chicago-area arts organization serving and run by artists over 50. Founded in 1988, CAVA promotes a platform for older artists to engage with peers, exhibit artwork, gain recognition, and explore creative connections in the wider community.

About the Happiness Show

For this summer exhibition, CAVA members have created original artwork that responds to the show theme of Happiness. “Our inspiration was to exhibit a thematic show in counterbalance to challenging times we have experienced, says the show organizer, Colette Wright Adams.

“Sometimes the smallest things make us happy. The smallest things can surprise, and delight, and fill us with wonder and joy. In the month that carries the celebration, for many, of Independence, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness, we asked our members to express what happiness means to them today, in the here and now.”

CAVA Artists are working right now through the spring on visual art responses to the Happiness theme, using a wide variety of media: painting, collage, drawing, sculpture, photography and printmaking work will all be included in the exhibition. The Epiphany Center draws a diverse audience to their concerts and performances, and CAVA artists are looking forward to the opportunity to make meaningful connections to a new audience of art lovers.

About the Chicago Alliance of Visual Artists

CAVA is a not-for-profit volunteer organization, founded in 1988, and committed to addressing the needs and concerns of artists aged 50 and older. CAVA promotes older artists and their work, creating community and fellowship through our annual exhibitions and educational events, including our salon events, workshops, member luncheon, annual symposium, and special themed exhibitions. We provide our 250-plus members throughout the greater Chicago area the opportunity to exhibit and sell their artwork in such notable venues as the Chicago Cultural Center, Evanston Art Center, Dank Haus German American Cultural Center, Bridgeport Art Center, Beverly Arts Center, the Haitian American Museum of Chicago, and the Leslie Wolfe Gallery in Old Town. CAVA members create art in a wide variety of media exploring an expansive array of topics, and covering a wealth of artistic and life experiences.

CAVA’s volunteer board members manage, publicize, produce, and coordinate our many activities. We rely on members, volunteers, and supporters to help with individual projects, generating new exhibition and event ideas, and to help reach out to other area arts organizations to realize partnership opportunities.
