It’s Women’s History Month and Third Wednesday is celebrating with a performance featuring the work of important but overlooked late 19th century female composers, including Amy Marcy Beach (US) and Dame Ethel Smyth (UK). Their popularity in Europe and North America is the musical representation of the immense international efforts to introduce women’s suffrage in the 20th century.

About the Performers:

Duo F.A.E. presents concerts that feature chamber music in its rawest form by joining two voices into one. In 2012, violinist Charlene Kluegel and pianist Katherine Petersen founded the partnership by taking their name from the motto of virtuoso violinist Joseph Joachim and composer Johannes Brahms “Frei Aber Einsam” meaning “Free but Alone.” The duo brought new meaning to this motto, doing all of their rehearsing and concertizing while living separately in Canada and the U.S. at the start of their partnership. Duo F.A.E. has performed extensively across Canada and the U.S. and they have been described as being filled with “virtuosity and maturity.” (Hill and Hollow Music)
