Weiyang Gao makes his FLXST Contemporary solo show debut with Will the Light Shine Through, featuring a new body of paintings that will dazzle and uplift. The show captures a turning of the page of sorts for Wei, emotionally and philosophically. His paintings in the show signal a vision of optimism in a world drowning in the heaviness of the past several years.
The title of the show Will the Light Shine Through isn't just a rhetorical exercise. Repeated like the symbols of the coat on his canvases, the title of the show becomes a mantra to manifest bold and undeniable ways of living in this moment.

Wei received his BFA in 2018 from Boston University and his MFA in painting and drawing in 2021 from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. Wei’s paintings blur the categories of figuration and abstraction.
