White Day (ホワイトデー): Japanese Holiday Crafts and Sweets

Saturday, Mar 14, 2020 2:00 PM – 4:30 PM

Happy White Day (ホワイトデー)! This holiday occurs exactly one month after Valentine's Day and was first celebrated in 1978 in Japan.

This program supports the Japan Hall of Fame at the International Museum of Surgical Science which features information on the contributions Japanese surgeons have made to modern surgical science. The artifacts and works of art in this gallery celebrate the medical achievements Japan has made throughout history including advancements in anesthetics, surgical stapling, and ultrasound technology.

RSVP in advance to receive $10 admission.

The International Museum of Surgical Science is excited to celebrate White Day on March 15th. Valentine's Day in countries that celebrate White Day typically involves girls and women presenting chocolate gifts to boys or men. On White Day, the reverse happens. Men and boys return the favor by giving gifts such as cookies, white chocolate, or marshmallows. Our program is open to people of all genders, please join us to make a gift to give to someone you care about. While this day originated in Japan, many other East Asian and Southeast Asian countries also celebrate White Day today.

On this special day we will provide everything you need to put together your own gift of sweets and a handmade card. You can also snack on the sweets, drink tea, and celebrate loved ones.

Drop in anytime between 2-4:30 pm!
