Louder Than a Bomb Squad is a five-week summer apprenticeship with Young Chicago Authors for twelve young poets. Members of the Bomb Squad are chosen based on their craft, content, dedication, work ethic, interest in pursuing the life of an artist/teaching artist, and ability to be an ambassador for Young Chicago Authors. Once their apprenticeship is complete, Bomb Squad becomes YCA’s battalion of talent, speaking and performing throughout the country on behalf of the organization and the work. This year the 2019 Bomb Squad will visit the Driehaus Museum to tour A Tale of Today: Yinka Shonibare CBE and conduct ekphrastic writing workshops with lead teaching artist, Jamila Woods. Following their day-long workshop these emerging poets will present their creative responses to A Tale of Today: Yinka Shonibare CBE at The Driehaus Museum.

Jamila Woods is a poet, singer, and teaching artist from Chicago, IL. She the Associate Artistic Director of Young Chicago Authors and a founding member of YCA’s Teaching Artist Corps.
