Opened in November 2017, M. LeBlanc brings to Chicago some of the most provocative emerging and mid-career artists working today. The gallery’s unique and charming fin-de-siècle storefront plays host to a bevy of internationally-recognized artists, many of whom are exhibiting in Chicago for the first time. In addition to the gallery’s ongoing exhibition programming, M. M. LeBlanc is proud to present 'New Works', an exhibition of painting by the celebrated San Francisco-based artist Christine Tien Wang. The exhibition is Tien Wang's first exhibition with the gallery as well as her first solo exhibition in Chicago.&nbsp; Christine Tien Wang (b. 1985, Washington D.C) lives and works in San Francisco. Recent solo exhibitions of Wang’s work include Fake Stupid, Queen of Cringe (2022) at Galerie Nagel Draxler in Berlin, Coronavirus Memes (2020) at Galerie Nagel Draxler in Cologne, #cryptomemes: women and Leo DiCaprio(2019) at Ever Gold Projects in San Francisco, Crypto Rich (2018) at Nagel Draxler Kabinett in Berlin, and Twilight (2018) at Magenta Plains in New York. Wang’s work was included in recent two-person and group exhibitions, ScreenTime with Luke Murphy (2021) at Night Gallery in Los Angeles, Friends and Family (2021) at Magenta Plains in New York City, Alphabetic Image (2021) at Arsenal in New York, Ladyfinger and Fig Mcflurry (2021) at 56 Henry in New York, and Climate Change is Real. Stop Procrastinating! with Mark Dion (2020) at Galerie Nagel Draxler in Munich. &nbsp;Wang has completed residencies at the Jamaica Center for Arts and Learning, VCUQatar, Chashama North, and Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture. Wang’s work belongs in the public collection of the Los Angeles Museum of Contemporary Art and the Groeninghe Collection in Belgium. Wang received a BFA from The Cooper Union for the Advancement of Art and Science in 2013 and an MFA in Painting from University of California, Los Angeles in 2008. She is currently Assistant Professor of Painting and Drawing at California College of Art.

Life after death. A candle flickers. Like after death, the light is gone. Enveloped in darkness the holy spirit runs rampant. Leaving presence on all things matter.M. LeBlanc is proud to present the gallery’s second solo exhibition with Virginia-born, Chicago-based artist Cameron Spratley, titled Violets and Daisies, the exhibition brings together a body of work the artist has been developing over the past two years. Where implements of violence - bats, knives, billy clubs, often frame Spratley’s compositional decisions, the works exhibited are a mediated departure from abrasive subjects. They are an embrace of aftermath, and a solemn exploration into recollection and the creation of memory from personal and public tragedy.&nbsp;The candles through Violets and Daisies function much like the screws and knives of Spratley's 2020&nbsp;works. Melting under the pressure of posturing, the candle's omnipotent and ephemeral light source is flattened to a pixelated print. Taken as a gesture to the material-transcendent philosophies of late Renaissance painting, and without regard to their new mediated rendering, Spratley's paintings radiate, endeavoring to push the lit or unlit candle past its traditional symbology of god's presence/non-presence. Mortal in this sense: ready to die: human. A wake for those remiss.True to Spratley's approach in constructing an image,&nbsp;Violets and Daisies&nbsp;reflects on this aesthetic and asks how we romanticize&nbsp;the passage of time, define our rituals of mourning, and meditate on loss today.

LeBlanc is proud to announce the gallery's second solo exhibition with the Berlin-based artist Hans-Jörg Mayer, titled 'That Summer Feelin' Is Gonna Haunt Me The Rest Of My Life'.Comprising the exhibition will be a selection of new paintings by Mayer.&nbsp;The exhibition will open Friday July 28th and remain on view through September 2nd 2023.&nbsp; Hans-Jörg Mayer (German, b. 1955 in Singen) lives and works in Berlin. Mayer’s work has been exhibited throughout the world over the past three decades. Born near the Lake of Constanz in the Black Forest, Mayer attended the Akademie der Bildenden Künste in Munich from 1975 to 1982, before relocating to Cologne. While Mayer lived in Cologne, he rose to prominence as one of his generation’s most compelling artists, making exhibitions with the tastemaking spaces of the day, such as, Galerie Rudolf Zwirner, Galerie Bleich-Rossi, Galerie Daniel Buchholz, and Galerie Christian Nagel.&nbsp;Recent solo exhibitions of Mayer’s work include A Touch of Chthulu (2020) at Galerie Nagel Draxler in Cologne and Sweet Distance - Bittere Maronen (2018) at nationalmuseum in Berlin. This coming Saturday July 15th from 12 to 6 pm is&nbsp;the final day to view Yves Scherer's exhibition 'Provence'.&nbsp;Provence, Scherer’s apt title for the exhibition is named after the famed southern French region, storied not only for its annual cavalcades of tourists but also for its magical light and bucolic flowered landscapes, both of which are&nbsp;iconic subjects in the histories of modern art. Scherer’s use of the region is simply a gesture,&nbsp;a placeholder of memory and attachment, and a shared source of where together we create memories, for ourselves, our families, and our futures.&nbsp;Provence is a space that’s as real and historic as it is performative. It’s in this superfiction that Scherer&nbsp;shaped this most recent body of work.In the midst of the pandemic, Scherer forged a new approach to his painting. Where he had made numerous large airbrush works in the past, this new body of work draws inspiration from historic Swiss landscape painters like Adolf Dietrich or Hans Emmenegger, whose works dot the artist's early life in the Swiss canton of Solothurn. Large horizontal swaths of muddled green, orange, and yellow, are sparsely separated by lone sets of poppies and peonies, each work representative of the elusiveness of recollection. Like all the work exhibited in Provence, at stake for Scherer is a multivalent intersection between nativity or ‘being at home’, the ever-malleable ideals of beauty, and the construction of&nbsp;oneself.Past works of Scherer’s prefaced these concepts through a use of celebrity figures - like Vincent Cassel, Kate Moss, or Emma Watson.
