Musings of Calm with Past + Present Chinese Art

<a href="https://www.pagodared.com/t/fine-art-contemporary-art-jan-pieter-fokkens">View works here</a>&nbsp;Chicago-based artist Jan Pieter Fokkens uses his work as a means of processing the incomprehensible. Navigating the relationship between algorithmic abstraction and the tangible qualities of pattern and color, Fokkens meditates on how reality is mediated by digital image.&nbsp;&nbsp;Image: Entitled "VFTS682," this vibrant drawing offers a representation of the Wolf-Rayet star VFTS 682, one of the largest and most luminous stars known. Using optical data from the European Southern Observatory, Fokkens extracts the average color of each coordinate, and uses archival markers to represent it as a single line upon the photo paper. The result is a reductionist account of an unimaginable sight. Acrylic on canvas. Unframed.

Join musicians Jay Taylor and Arianne Urban in the serene <a href="https://pagodared.com/">PAGODA RED</a> gallery for a unique experience in sound.Find a comfortable seat, sit back, and listen as Jay and Arianne utilize the powerful and subtle vibrations of a gong, crystal singing bowls, and viola to support you in relaxing your body, calming your mind, and releasing stress.Arrive at 5:00pm for a brief explanation of how vibrations interact with the body. The meditation itself will take place from 5:10-5:50. An energy exchange (donation) is recommended.Jay Taylor is a musician and urban farmer. As a special education teacher in Chicago for the past 10 years, Jay understands that he must meet each person he works with right where they are in their consciousness. Through the use of the gong, crystal bowls, shakers, voice, and guitar, Jay takes participants on a Sound Voyage that results in the total relaxation of the physical body, re-tuning of the energetic body, and the release of accumulated heavy energy.
