River North gallery owner Judy Saslow announced this week that she will be closing her eponymous gallery and retiring in August after 20 years in business.  Her familiar gallery has been located at the corner of Superior and Franklin for the past two decades, and Saslow has made her name promoting work by mainly outsider artists, most notably Chicago's own Mr Imagination. The gallery also exhibits work by contemporary artists.

Saslow is opening a work of Japanese art on Friday, June 5 in conjunction with the neighborhood's monthly First Friday openings.  The opening will also be the 76 year-old's retirement party and a celebartion of the gallery's artists.  Following the opening, works from the gallery's inventory will also be on sale.
