The paintings in the Elemental Exhibition are made by artists who respond deeply to forces of nature. Immerse yourself in their interpretations of the elements. Reflect on water in its various transformations, as it melts down from ice and snow. The theme focuses on dualities: fire and ice; water and earth. The artists’ resilience during the winter months is evident in their work: they buckle down and push paint around. Some of them they load it up and apply it in a thick impasto, painting fiery scenes. Others work more methodically with transparent glazes, creating surreal allegorical figures who make us question reality. Regardless of their approach, they are committed to the medium of painting, making their magic with its alchemical qualities.
