Farah Salem: Mirage / سراب

Join artist Farah Salem for her 60-minute interactive performance entitled Mirage / سراب on Saturday, August 6th, from 7-8 pm. Hosted at ENGAGE Projects, Salem will reenact a common children’s game from Kuwait called “Baar/Bahar,” or “Dry Desert/Sea,” communicating through shifting body postures in response to the changes of landscape. In this performance, Salem will explore Kuwaiti folkloric rituals and language through the fusion of landscape and cultural metaphor. Best known for her photographic work, Salem investigates themes of access, agency, and power and their effects on the human psyche to approach an understanding of how identity displacement can be a result of these factors. Traffic in and out of the gallery will not be permitted during the performance, so be sure to mark your calendars for 7 PM!
