The two-story abstract mural will be completed and on view to the public on Level Two of the shopping center starting January 2023.&nbsp;“Much like clothes in the closet that we love and pull out to wear from time to time, ‘zip me up’ is a return to, and remix of, an earlier painting of a dahlia flower that lived on a Chicago rooftop,” said Alvarez. “This commission by Fashion Outlets of Chicago was a wonderful opportunity to dive back into my own archive and remix this painting to give it a bold, evocative new life.” &nbsp;&nbsp;Known for her complex, vibrantly layered works, Alvarez’s paintings and drawings combine abstract and figurative forms that are rich in pop, historical and modern art references, often incorporating world news and personal memories. Throughout her career, she has been commissioned by the City of Chicago for a 200 foot-long digital painting on the Chicago Riverwalk, collaborated with international designer Rei Kawakubo for Comme des Garçons 2017 Men’s Couture collection, celebrated a 40-year retrospective at the Chicago Cultural Center and more. Recently, her work has been seen in the inaugural La Trienial at El Museo del Barrio in New York Latinx Abstraction at BRIC Arts in Brooklyn, and Z33 House for Contemporary Art, Design &amp; Architecture in Belgium. Her work has been acquired by institutions including The Art Institute of Chicago, Perez Art Museum Miami and the Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago. Of the finalists, the museum is among 14 nonprofit organizations and neighborhood businesses to receive grants exceeding $250,000 and is the sole arts and culture institution to receive the highest award of $5 million. In addition to the funds raised through its ongoing capital campaign, Intuit will use this funding to support the renovation of its existing building at 756 N. "We're excited to renovate our facility to better serve the art, the artists and the community."Through renovation, Intuit will expand its usable audience space from one to three floors while improving the working conditions and safety for guests, staff and the art via upgrades to utilities and HVAC. City of Chicago Awards Intuit a Community Development Grant of $5 Million

The third phase will give a total of $120,000 to 15 independent artist-run spaces ($8,000 each). To date, the initiative has given more than half a million dollars ($680,000) to 85 independent artists-run spaces. Artists Run Chicago Fund initiative is generously supported by the Builders Initiative.The fund aims to acknowledge the important contributions of artist-run platforms to the Chicago art community, strengthen artist-to-artist support networks, and encourage the emergence of new artist-run spaces, while prioritizing platforms run by ALAANA (African, Latinx, Asian, Arab, and Native American), queer, womxn artists and artists with disabilities. Late Autumn Gallery Walk in River North is Nov 4

Brooklyn-based multi-disciplinary artist Derrick Adams will present a commissioned piece for Art on theMART as a part of spring programming for 2023. Joining him will be Korean artist Dr. Yiyun Kang, whose projection will premiere as a part of the fall 2023 lineup. Additional plans for 2023 include the launch of a guest curator program: a platform for digital curators to commission artists and contribute toArt on theMART’s curatorial vision for 2024. &nbsp;Derrick Adams, a Baltimore-born, New York-based artist, identifies his practice as a fearless inquiry into Black life to emphasize a narrative that champions humanity and wholeness. Rooted in deconstructivism, Adams’ acclaimed work is multi-disciplinary spanning painting, collage, sculpture, performance, and video. &nbsp;Adams has chosen to study the influence of pop culture and self-image through the Black lens, leading him to question and reflect on the Black American experience through art history, consumerism, and iconography. Most recently, Adams assembled a multi-media installation titled “Packaged Black” at The Henry Gallery in Seattle in collaboration with Barbara Earl Thomas, which explored their shared dialogue on Black identity, practices and cultural resistance. &nbsp;Dr. Yiyun Kang, a veteran in the field of projection mapping and immersive art, has hosted exhibitions at numerous art institutions including the Victoria and Albert Museum and Seoul Museum of Art, and has participated in international events such as the Venice Architecture Biennale and the Shenzhen New Media Art Festival. Working at the intersection of art, sound and technology, Kang’s projection mapping installations create kinetic environments for audiences to explore. She is perhaps best known for her 2021 solo exhibition at PKM Gallery in South Korea titled Anthropause, which explored the finite nature of humanity and the rapid depletion of Earth’s resources in the form of an animated digital projection. &nbsp;Adams is presented in partnership with Rhona Hoffman Gallery. This painting conveys the artist’s feelings of isolation and self-doubt that show up continuously throughout her body of work. Abercrombie scholar Susan Weininger notes that it is “a powerful statement about how one’s internal deficiencies can limit external actions.” Bidders were clearly struck by the work and drove the price up to far above its $60,000-80,000 estimate. MoCP Announces Back To School Educational Resources

The report offers specific treatment recommendations for the monuments under review, including taking the monument down, modifying the monument by commissioning another artwork and/or adding additional signage. While the City works through the recommendations, which will require time and the involvement of various City agencies, CMP recommends that signage for all work currently on display be updated.&nbsp;New WorkAs part of its engagement process, CMP released a call, “Reimagining Monuments: Request for Ideas,” to solicit proposals from individual artist and community groups that rethink the place, purpose, and permanence of monuments in our public spaces. In addition, DCASE and Parks commissioned a number of demonstration projects through their public art and grant programs that signified the potential for new types of monuments that highlight diverse approaches and stories. A number of key action items emerged across proposals and demonstration projects, including engaging and interpreting the City’s existing public art collection; achieving greater visibility for American Indians; reexamining Chicago’s history, considering unsung people and underrecognized stories; and prioritizing programs led by or engaging youth.&nbsp;In the near term, the City will award $50,000 planning and implementation grants toward the development of eight new projects, which will add—permanently or temporarily—to the City’s collection and memorialize events, people or groups that historically have been excluded or underrepresented. Engagement modes included:<ul><li>Open-ended public feedback form on the CMP website; online speaker series examining key issues around Chicago’s monuments</li><li>Community-based groups presenting virtual public discussions on specific monuments</li><li>“Drop-in” virtual discussion sessions with CMP advisory committee members and DCASE staff</li><li>Virtual conversations with eight community stakeholder groups: African American, American Indian, Italian America, Latinx, leadership of culturally specific organizations, disability, historic preservation and youth</li><li>American Indian representation developed in partnership with Chicago American Indian Community Collaborative (CAICC)</li><li>Solicitation of project ideas from individual artist and community group for the development of new monuments that rethink the place, purpose and permanence of monuments in our public spaces.</li></ul>“This report looks to the future and recognizes that this is just one phase in an ongoing process. Just as we are reconsidering the permanence of the monuments themselves, the recommendations included in this report are not the final word on the complex, ever-evolving issues related to justice, public space and our shared history. <html><head></head><body><figure class="image"><img src="https://res.cloudinary.com/dfafo598z/image/upload/v1721419090/bpuyrydnsarm09wmxwag.png"></figure>&nbsp;<a href="https://artsinthedark.com">Arts in the Dark</a>, also known as the "artist's holiday," is a magical evening parade that celebrates Halloween.&nbsp;LUMA8 is proud to announce that the Arts in the Dark Halloween Parade will return to State Street as the Grand Finale of the city's "Halloweek" program on Saturday, October 29th, 2022.&nbsp; This event draws together world-renowned institutions like the Art Institute of Chicago, celebrated Chicago organizations like Lookingglass Theatre Company, important programs like After School Matters and aspiring artists in every field.&nbsp; Now in its eigth year, this extraordinary parade has delighted hundreds of thousands of locals and visitors with unique floats, spectacle puppets and creative performances.This year CGN is helping Arts in the Dark to bring together a group of artists interested in getting involved in the annual Halloween parade in the Loop.&nbsp;What is Art After Dark?&nbsp;Mark Kelly, former Commissioner of Cultural Affairs for the City of Chicago (DCASE), along with Sharene Shariatzadeh, President &amp; CEO of LUMA8, will be coordinating the project again and helping you and your fellow artists to develop a theme that would work well for a contingent of artists.&nbsp;&nbsp;Your role: As artists you will operate as a part of a committee to develop a plan for your participation in Arts in the Dark. There is also the potential to choose a chair or co-chairs to lead the group. &nbsp;What: The Arts in the Dark Halloween Parade on State Street and the Grand Finale of the city's "Halloweek" program.When: Saturday, October 29th, 2022How many: We are seeking 15–25 artists/participants.
